Last Friday night i had the opportunity to go to Cecil Country Dragway. This is the first time i have run the .:R, but not my first time at the track. I have run a 1.8T, WRX, and MazdaSpeed6 before. So this isnt my first time with AWD, but it was the first time with a non-manual. It was a good time, but i am disappointed with the times. I was hoping for anything in the 13.xxxxx @ I Dont Care. I didnt really come close at all. She is completely stock and I have Continental All-Seasons for tires from the factory.

A couple of observastions:
My first run i had the car is S with the ESP off and tried to use the Luanch Control. It seemed that while in the staging lane, then driving up to the lights, the Launch Control becomes disabled. So when i got to the lights, i had to put it into D, then back into S and it would work. It did this consistantly all night.

This thing is consistant. Once i figured it out, the last 5 runs are within 0.1 of each other. But what did bother me a little is the final speeds are inconsistant. On each run i just let the DSG shift, except for the last. The last run i shifted at 6k and ended up with a similar time.

I know that Reaction Time does not matter, but trying to get that to a low number is hard. Gauging when to release the brake and how long until the car lurches forward was hard.

This car is much quicker on the street than at the strip. I have had fun runs against 13 second cars and kept up a lot better than what these times show. It is hard to explain to someone with a 14.5 for a 30k car that it is quicker on the street than the strip. But it isnt a drag car.

One piece of advice I was given was to raise the front tire pressure to 50psi. This will break the front tires loose quicker and engage the AWD for the rear wheels quicker. This makes sence and that is what i did for the MazdaSpeed6.

On to the Time Slips. I dont have a scanner at home, so they are typed in the order that i ran them:

On to some videos. They are not the best and not each run was recorded. I told my buddy to sit in the grandstands, but he did not listen:

Doesn't seem to far off from what the car magazines tested it at best time I saw was a 14.2 with most being 14.4-14.6. Chip it!

I would have guessed 14.9-15.3. You should be more than happy with your times!

I don't think your times are really that bad. This is a heavier car than previous generations, you have all the options, etc... A low 14's car is actually fast on the street when it really comes down to 99% of other cars.

Now, I'd love to race ya with my MKII. :-)

I never really felt the need to read up much on mkVs but I would have expected better. My almost stock motor mk4 12v ran a 15.3.

The main reason i am kind of disappointed is the fact that i ran 14.5 with my MKIV 1.8t with just a TBE, intake, and a split second boost controller. I am unsure of the next time i will get to the track, but i at least wanted to run it once. It is the best overall car that i have owned. That is my justification for accepting a slower time.

I also ran a 13.5 with my stock MazdaSpeed6. That thing was a pig. It was AWD and a six speed. The biggest difference must be the transmission. I was cutting 1.8 60' times.

I am scared of MKII's. I remember running one at maple grove a really long time ago with my GTI and he was quick. Those things are so light that he took off and was gone.

No chip, I checked on Tues. The factory exhausts are just that restrictive, aparently.
